It measures from 100 to 30,000rpm with accuracy to or - 0.02%, and it takes noncontact measurements in rpm and rps using a laser beam that works at a distance from 4 to 16 inches for user safety. The six-digit LCD screen presents test results and the unit of measurement, and backlighting improves contrast in low-light conditions and helps eliminate light reflections. The device stores maximum and minimum test result values for ease of data recall, and automatically shuts off after two minutes of inactivity to help preserve battery life. A cover protects the sensor from damage. The CE mark indicates compliance with applicable EU directives. It comes with reflective tape, a lanyard, three AAA batteries, and instructions. Tachometers measure the rate of rotation or surface speed of motors, conveyor belts, and other moving systems. Contact tachometers take measurements through direct contact with the moving surface, and can measure both rpm and surface speed. Typically, contact tachometers come with a range of attachments that can be used to measure speed on different kinds of rotary systems, which may include tips used for measuring shafts with a central hole or flat end surfaces, and rotary wheels for measuring conveyor belts. Noncontact tachometers take measurements from a distance using a beam of infrared light, and provide highly accurate measurements. Contact tachometers are an excellent choice for dirty and dusty environments; noncontact tachometers only calculate rpm but are considered safer because they do not require the operator to be in close contact with the moving surface. Contact/noncontact tachometers, also known as dual, or combination tachometers, can be used to take contact and noncontact measurements.
